The Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) at CEU cordially invites you to participate in an afternoon of events in celebration of the International Day of Peace.

12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: HRSI information table in the Octagon of CEU's Monument Building
5:00 p.m.: A discussion on the War on Terror in the Bean Bag Room (basement of the Monument Building) with Michael Simmons.
6:15 p.m.: Film screening of Bridge Over the Wadi (Bean Bag Room)

Discussion on the War on Terror
Michael Simmons will lead a discussion on the War on Terror. Mr. Simmons is a human rights activist who has over 40 years of experience. His earliest activism was as a part of the African American Civil Rights movement in the U.S. Since then he has been involved in countless human rights struggles, including anti-apartheid in South Africa, Angolan independence, rights under the Soviet Union and refugee relief work in Macedonia, Bosnia and Serbia in 1999. He has also been involved in issues such as nuclear non-proliferation, Roma rights, sex-trafficking and conflict resolution. For more information about Michael Simmons, visit

Film Screening
The film titled Bridge Over the Wadi (57 min, 2006) follows a group of Arab and Jewish students during their first year at Hand in Hand (a bi-lingual, bi-national grade school). The film will be shown with English subtitles.
