Communications Office Launches Faculty Experts List

In order to increase CEU's visibility by facilitating journalist access to CEU scholars, the Communications Office has published a CEU Faculty Experts List. The list offers a quick reference for media professionals seeking expert commentary. It is available on the CEU Newsroom site: http://experts.ceu.hu. Searchable by name and specialization, the list will enable journalists worldwide to identify and connect with CEU scholars. It also provides a field for links to CEU videos or articles featuring people on the list.

CEU Business School Team Wins Business Ethics Case Competition

A team of CEU Business School MBA students became divisional champions in the Intercollegiate Business Ethics Case Competition (IBECC) held in San Diego, California, May 8 to 10. Aswad Harris, William Lloyd, Virginia Mocsai, and Sarat Sarngadharan, students in the full-time MBA program, beat teams from prominent business schools including IESE, INSEAD, Warwick, the University of Oxford, and Simon Fraser University. IBECC is the oldest and most recognized business ethics competition of its kind.

New Multidisciplinary Research Group to Discuss Issues in South Asia and Beyond

The South and South East Asian Studies Group (SASEAS) was formed at CEU on May 7 in response to a need for a multidisciplinary space for sharing research and ideas related to South and South East Asia, which plays an increasingly large role in global affairs. The launch event featured a screening of the film, “India Untouched: Stories of a People Apart,” a documentary on social discrimination in India.

Zimmermann Promoted to University Professor

Susan Zimmermann has been promoted to university professor in theDepartment of History, effective April 8, following Senate approval of aproposal by President and Rector John Shattuck. Shattuck praised her wide-ranging intellectual interests, heroutstanding research and publication record, and her long record of service tothe University.

Gyori Receives Hungarian Academy of Sciences Award

Ervin Gyori, professor in the Department of Mathematics and its Applications and one of the founders of the department’s PhD program, was awarded the Academy Prize by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences earlier this month, in recognition of his outstanding work in the fields of combinatorics and extremal graph theory. Csaba Elected Full Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Laszlo Csaba, university professor in the Department of International Relations and European Studies, was elected a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences at the general assembly May 6. Full members are elected from the pool of corresponding members, which consists of Hungarian citizens who, since becoming corresponding members, have produced significant academic research results in their respective fields.

Peto Awarded USC Shoah Foundation 2013 Teaching Fellow Program Fellowship

Andrea Peto, associate professor in the Department of Gender Studies, has been awarded a Teaching Fellowship by the USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education. Peto will teach the course selected for the award, “Gendered Memories of the Holocaust,” in collaboration with the Open Society Archives, CEU Library, and CEU Center for Teaching and Learning, in the autumn term of 2013/14. M.A. Student Awarded White House Management Fellowship

Thomas Gillis, who graduates from the Department of International Relations and European Studies this spring, has been awarded a White House Management Fellowship. This highly competitive U.S. government program enables fellows to spend a year as a full-time, paid assistant to senior White House staff, the Vice President, cabinet secretaries, and other top-ranking government officials.

Gereby Awarded Keeley Visiting Fellowship at Wadham College, Oxford

Gyorgy Gereby, associate professor in the Medieval Studies Department, has been awarded the Keeley Visiting Fellowship at Wadham College, University of Oxford, for the 2013/14 academic year. The fellowship is awarded based on departmental nomination. Gereby will spend this sabbatical year conducting research on Hellenistic and Early Christian political theology.
