Manuscript Workshop: Group Duties: Their Possibility and Their Implications for Individuals by Stephanie Collins

The Political, Legal and Moral Philosophy (POLEMO) Research Group and Department of Political Science

cordially invite you to the manuscript workshop on

Stephanie Collins’s

Group Duties: Their Possibility and Their Implications for Individuals

Group Duties asks two questions: Which kinds of group can bear duties? And what does that imply about the duties of groups' members? The book defends a 'tripartite model', which divides groups into three kinds: combinations, coalitions, and collectives. Each kind of group has a different status as duty-bearer, with different implications for group members.

Stephanie Collins is a philosopher at the Australian Catholic University. Prior to joining the ACU, she was a Lecturer in Political Theory at the University of Manchester. In 2017/18 she held a Mind Association Research Fellowship. Her research focuses on a range of topics in moral and political philosophy, including the moral status of groups; group action and joint action; collective moral obligations; ethics of care; state responsibility and responsibility of its members, etc. Her publications appeared in numerous journals such as Journal of Philosophy, Australasian Journal of Philosophy, Canadian Journal of PhilosophyPhilosophical Quarterly, and Journal of Political Philosophy.

The workshop is organized in "Author Meets Critics" format. Each session covers one book chapter. Each session will begin with a brief summary of the relevant chapter by the author followed by a 20-minute commentary by a discussant, followed by Q & A. Everyone who would like to participate will be emailed a PDF of the manuscript.

The workshop conveners are Jelena Belic and Zoltan Miklosi.

Participation is open to all. If you would like to attend, please register with Jelena Belic (belic_jelena@phd.ceu.edu).
